Session Outline

The University of Sunderland employs three main models for the provision of personal academic tutoring. Briefly, these are:

• At our London campus we have a dedicated team of Personal Academic Tutors whose sole role is the support of students
• For our online international provision, Sunderland-based academics provide tutoring support to their own students as part of delivery and in conjunction with in-country mentors
• For our Sunderland campuses all academics, as a key part of their teaching role, undertake personal academic tutoring for students in their programme area but who they may not be teaching

This presentation focuses on the third model and explores the wide range of support and training made available to individual academics for the personal academic tutoring element of their role. This includes:

• Developing a support framework for our personal academic tutoring community
• Elements of the support framework (including an online course, online resources and face-to-face support)
• Recognition of quality tutoring
