Session Outline

This session will assist participants to explore the behaviours and support from academic staff that might enable them to cultivate and develop the self belief of learners. The presenter Gavin Jinks has undertaken 2 evaluation projects to look at how students on an Applied Social Work degree can be assisted to cultivate self-belief. For the first part of the project he also worked alongside a teacher/headteacher who looked at the issues from the perspective of primary education and a theatre director who looked at the issues from the perspective of adult community theatre. For the second part of the evaluation project he has undertaken a qualitiative study to help identify behaviours from academic staff that promote the cultivation of student self-belief. This workshop will ask participants to identify whether or not his findings resonate with them.
