Session Outline

The foundation to creating our comprehensive and successful Personal Tutoring Programme was based on understanding and employing the many definitions and nuances of established syllabuses. By harnessing and applying multiple systems, we were able to learn from its rich history, reflect upon present practice and build towards setting new future strategies.

The challenge of building a wide-ranging programme to work seamlessly alongside a structured validated curriculum necessitated a design that responded to each nuance, provide the flexibility to accommodate new pedagogic theories and fundamentally, is operationally efficient to fit contentedly within a congested academic year.

This applied workshop will explore:

  • The founding principles behind our Undergraduate Personal Tutoring Programme
  • Building level specific student outcomes
  • How to be proactive and not re-active when responding to student problems
  • Successfully engaging with students through multiple settings
  • Writing a student expansion curriculum

The session will conclude by examining the barriers we have encountered, the solutions we have employed, and emphasise the importance of collaborative stakeholders within our institution that can drive standards and energy across all aspects of the student experience. The whole of our programme is only successful because of the cooperative sum of its many interconnected parts.
