Session Outline

We are senior tutors at the university of Surrey. We support colleagues in the School of Veterinary Science and the School of Health Sciences to offer pastoral support to students on programmes in which over half of their course is undertaken on placement rather than in the university. In this interactive workshop we will explore the challenges and opportunities of supporting students on placement, from the perspective of the professional development of personal tutors to undertake such support. We will describe training sessions run in our schools as well as opening discussion to gain views from workshop participants. We will make particular reference to training tutors around supporting students with reasonable adjustments for disability, neurodiversity and mental health conditions.
