As well as the formal conference programme, we have a variety of social and networking events for delegates during the conference and full details of these are listed below. Many of these are included in the delegate fee and you will be automatically registered to attend these events when you register as a delegate. Others may attract an additional charge; where this is the case, information on the additional charge for the specific event is listed below.

Community Reflection Activity – Advising Metaphor Wall - Day 1

Monday, April 13, 2026 12:00 PM onward


Delegates are invited to contribute to the UKAT Metaphor Wall, a shared space for reflection on the meaning of advising. Participants will have the opportunity to express, in a few words, how they see the role of an advisor and what advising represents in their professional experience. As the conference progresses, the wall will gradually become a collective portrait of the advising community, a mosaic of perspectives, experiences and values that shape advising practice across institutions and contexts. The Metaphor Wall offers a light and creative opportunity for reflection, conversation and connection among colleagues across the advising community.

Manchester Met Moves Wellness session- yoga and stretch

Monday, April 13, 2026 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM


A beginner-friendly session, open to all abilities, with soothing breathing activities and stretches that will leave participants feeling relaxed and restored for the week ahead. Please wear comfortable clothes e.g. leggings. There are changing rooms and lockers available.

Pre-booking is required for this session. Delegates can book by clicking the Manage button against their conference booking on their My Courses & Events page. If somebody booked your conference place on your behalf, you may have to ask them to manage the booking and add this event to your registration.

Guided Tours – Manchester Story Walks

The Manchester Story Walks offer conference delegates an opportunity to explore the city around the conference venue while discovering stories connected to social change, literature and industrial innovation. Led by student Peer Guides, each walk will focus on a different theme and will introduce participants to key locations within walking distance of the conference venue

Walk 2 “Literary Manchester

UKAT Has Got Talent

At this year’s conference dinner, we invite you to take part in UKAT Has Got Talent, a light hearted moment to celebrate the creativity within the UKAT community. Personal tutoring and academic advising is about connection and care and this is an to share something that brings you joy. You might sing, perform a poem, dance, play music, tell a story or share any creative expression that reflects your culture, heritage or personal interests. There will be no judging. It is just a space for colleagues to share, connect and enjoy one another’s talents.

If you would like to participate, please complete send us a short expression of interest outlining what you would like to share, including the timing.

Self-Directed City Walking Tour

Tuesday, April 14, 2026 10:00 AM onward


Visit Manchester History Museum & Manchester Library & St Peter’s Square suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.

This is not a guided tour. Delegates will be given maps to follow the walking route of their choice. An ideal after-conference activity to explore more of Manchester on the way to catch your train home.

Visit Manchester United Football Stadium

Tuesday, April 14, 2026 10:00 AM onward


Take a bus from the Brooks Building to visit the Manchester United Football Stadium, before catching a bus to Manchester City Centre Piccadilly to continue your homeward journey. 

This is not a guided tour. Delegates will be given maps and information to follow to get to and from the stadium. An ideal after-conference activity to explore one of Manchester's iconic cultural venues on the way to catch your train home.
