Session Outline


The session is a collaborative workshop which aims to develop a community of practice around professional development. The skills and techniques needed to support Personal Tutoring will be discussed alongside the findings of Dionne’s research in this area. There will an opportunity to share good practice across the sector to develop, support, challenge and empower Tutors and Advisors to be the best they can be supported. Dionne will share recommendations from her doctoral research based around her model for ‘How a Higher Education Institution Could Better Support Personal Tutors’ focusing on the development strand. She will also share her recommendations for future research. Dionne will discuss Birmingham's approach to Professional Development for Personal Tutors. At the end of the session participants will be able to identify next steps in terms of their own professional development and how institutions should approach professional development for tutoring and advising.
