Session Outline
This workshop will examine ways to build effective relationships between students and staff and explore approaches to create a sense of community amongst students from the very first interaction. We will begin by asking workshop participants to consider ‘who do they need to be’ in order to spark engaging relationships? By delving into the mindset and attitude needed to set up positive relationships participants have the opportunity to understand how these influence their behaviours and approach.
We will look at how to set the context and expectations for your working relationships and introduce some ideas for supporting students to make connections with each other, in a joyful and positive ways which has students wellbeing at it’s heart.
We will share how Nottingham Trent University have worked in partnership with Grit and existing students to create a warm, but structured approach that includes, and goes beyond, Personal tutoring. At the heart of this method is building opportunities for staff and students to see each other primarily as human beings rather than the roles they hold.
This workshop will be delivered in a group coaching approach which will provide a fully participatory session. Participants will be asked to draw on, and share, their own experiences, ideas and opinions to offer different perspectives.
