The senior tutor network group provides a space for senior tutors to connect with others in a similar role and/or with similar interests, where ideas, challenges and strategies can be discussed. The role of senior personal tutors is diverse and will vary between institutions and therefore this space will also allow ideas for sharing of best practice, resources and any other relevant information.
Audience
All UKAT members who are senior tutors and/or who are involved in their institutional Senior Tutor Network (or equivalent). This group is also applicable to those with an interest in/working towards becoming a senior tutor.
Typical roles: Senior Personal Tutors, Senior Academic Advisors
Aims
The aims of this group are to:
- share good practice
- provide peer support and informal mentoring for senior tutors
- empower senior tutors and help them to gain confidence in their role
- enable discussion between senior tutors on topics such as:
- student challenges
- approaches to tutoring at a distance
- roles & responsibilities
- training and development opportunities
- the language of advising/tutoring
- the purpose of tutoring
- student and staff engagement
- provide a collaborative space for innovations and scholarly activity relating to senior tutors
- raise awareness and promote the work of UKAT within institutions and beyond
